The Lithuania public broadcaster LRT has confirmed that it will participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Italy.
Lithuania has confirmed to ESC Today that it will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022, making its 22nd appearance in the contest. In 2021 The Roop came 8th making it Lithuania’s second-best result at the song contest so far, only behind 2006 which saw LT united come 6th.
It has not been announced yet if a national final will be used to select the 2022 singer and song. However, as a national final has been used by LRT to select their act every year since 1994 it is most likely a national final will be used once more in 2022.
2021 was a record year for Lithuania at Eurovision. Almost 1 million people watched the Grand Final of Eurovision 2021 in Lithuania, becoming their highest viewing audience to date. The Roop won the national final by a landslide with 86.5% of all the total 86,123 votes being cast, breaking their own record they set last year in 2020. While Lithuania 2021 Eurovision entry “Discoteque” would go on to break local records for views on youtube and streams on Spotify. While Eurovision 2021 winners Måneskin would see many of their own songs hit the local charts.

Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, however on their debut they finished in last place with nul points. Lithuania didn’t return to the contest until 1999 when Aiste finished 20th with the song “Strazdas”. Lithuania’s best result came in 2006 when LT United performed “We Are The Winners”; they finished 6th in the final with a total of 162 points. Lithuania’s only other top 10 finish came in 2016 when Donny Montell performed “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” in Stockholm, he received 12 points from the public in Ireland, Norway & United Kingdom.
