Mahmood who represented Italy at Eurovision 2019 has expressed his interest in being a guest performer at Eurovision 2022.
Speaking to Formula TV, Mahmood has expressed his interest in being a guest performer at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Italy. Mahmood was asked by Spanish media whether he wished to present the contest, to which he responded:
I a presenter? No, no that’s not the case. I don’t always have the right words at the right time! I’d rather be a guest, when you sing I’m always in the front row.
Mahmood represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel with the song “Soldi”. He finished 2nd with a total of 472 points. Since Eurovision, he has continued his success winning a number of awards and releasing his second studio album.

Italy debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has participated a total of 42 times to date. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having last participated in the contest in 1997, the country has withdrawn from the contest on a number of occasions in the past. Italy has won the contest three times, the first time being in 1964 and the latest being in 2021. Italy’s hosting of the contest in 1991 has been remembered as one of the most chaotic contests to date. Since their return in 2011 Italy has finished in the top 10 on eight occasions.
