John Lawton who represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 1976 as part of Les Humphries Singers has died.
British singer John Lawton has died at the age of 74, Uriah Heep has announced in a social media post. John Lawton was a British rock and blues vocalist who performed over his career as part of Lucifer’s Friend, Uriah Heep, and the Les Humphries Singers.
John joined Les Humphries Singers in the early 1970s having traveled to Germany for a series of gigs as part of Stonewall. In 1976 Les Humphries Singers competed to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest with “Sing Sang Song”.
The group had finished second in the selection but competed in the contest after the selection winner was disqualified due to having previously performed their entry ahead of the selection. “Sing Sang Song” finished 15th in the contest out of 18 entries.
