Several acts who performed in the second semi final on Thursday have seen their songs enter the Spotify Viral 50 across Europe today.
As we edge nearer to the Grand Final of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we have combed through the Spotify Viral 50 lists across Europe to spot which songs are trending across the continent.
Two songs in particular who performed in semi-final 2 have seen themselves enter or climb the top 50 charts. Finland with Dark Side has entered the Top 10 in many nations, including Estonia, Lithuania, Belgium and The Netherlands. Switzerland too has seen Tout L’Univers be played widely across Europe, entering the top 10 in Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Poland. They have also topped the chart at home in Switzerland.
Other songs from Semi-Final 2 have also entered the lower ends of the Spotify Viral Top 50, with Iceland and San Marino finding themselves being played regularly across Europe.
Ultimately, however, it is the songs from Semi-Final 1 that are featuring heavily in the charts. By virtue of having performed earlier in the week, they have had longer to build their momentum and several countries have maintained it throughout the week.
Ukraine, Cyprus, Azerbaijan and Malta have all managed to make it into the Global Top 50, with Shum and El Diablo currently resting inside the Top 10 in 5th and 9th respectively. All four nations are found within the tops of most European nations as well.
They are joined by other Semi-Final 1 entrants, most notably Lithuania and Russia are enjoying great successes across Europe, featuring heavily in the top 20 of many countries. Norway too is being played widely across the continent.
The Big 5
The Big 5, who have not performed yet, though clips have been shown in the semi-finals and full performances are available to be seen on Youtube, are also enjoying regular plays across Europe. It is of no surprise that Italy, the current favourites to win, are consistently inside the top 5. Countries such as Sweden, Russia and Ukraine have them inside the Top 3 and they have topped the chart in Greece.
France, another favourite is featuring widely across the continent although not as consistently high as their Italian rivals.
The United Kingdom will be pleased to see that Embers has managed to break into the lower end of several charts including the home market, which is often the harshest critic of UK entries. Germany too, features in the Top 50 in some nations. Spain unfortunately is yet to break into the chart.
Streams across Europe can be a good indicator of who the televote could favour, and at the moment Ukraine and Italy look like they might be receiving a good haul of points. However, it would be unwise to focus purely on this data, which does not take into account all of the voting countries and… it could all change on the night!
