Eurofestival News reports that interest in the Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final One is up by 29% compared to the same show in 2019.
535,000 viewers watched on Rai 4 last night as the first Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 was broadcast. The figure is an increase of 29% over the same show in 2019 and the largest audience for a Semi-Final in Italy since 2017.
The broadcast had a share of 2.2%, which is the highest share for a Semi-Final since the second semi-final in 2017. The previous highest audience for the first Semi-Final in Italy was 514,000 in 2017.
Audience figures for Semi-Final One so far:
- Germany – 700,000 viewers – 4.1% share
- Italy – 535,000 viewers – 2.2% share
- Spain – 564,000 viewers – 3.6% share
Who are Måneskin?
Måneskin is a rock band from Rome, consisting of members Damiano David (lead vocals), Victoria De Angelis (bass), Thomas Raggi (guitar), and Ethan Torchio (drums). The group formed in 2016, while the members were in high school.
This year, Måneskin competed in the Sanremo Music Festival against 25 other participants in the Campioni category. With their song “Zitti e buoni”, they reached the super final, and ultimately won the contest with an average score of 40.7% of the votes from the jury and public combined.

Italy debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has participated a total of 42 times to date. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having last participated in the contest in 1997, the country has withdrawn from the contest on a number of occasions in the past. Italy has won the contest twice, the first time being in 1964 and the latest being in 1990. Italy’s hosting of the contest in 1991 has been remembered as one of the most chaotic contests to date. Since their return in 2011 Italy has finished in the top 10 on seven occasions.
