The Lithuanian broadcaster have revealed that The Roop will have a 6th performer; a backing singer who will remain offstage.
An article published by LRT have revealed The Roop’s “secret weapon” in their act for Rotterdam. They will use their full quota of 6 performers as they use an additional backing vocalist off stage.
The backing vocalist is 26 year old performer Algirdas Daumantas Ciūnys. Ciūnys may be known to some people in Lithuania already, as he has released some music as a solo artist and has participated in several TV shows in the country.
When interviewed he affirmed his love for Eurovision, saying that ” I have admired Eurovision since I was a child when I saw Ruslana, the winner of this competition, in 2004″.
His pedigree includes TV shows such as Choir Wars, The Voice & X Factor but he decided to distance himself from the TV spotlight saying “It can be said that two different people were formed. One wants to be heard, drink attention, enjoy it. And the other is to distance oneself from the environment. Maybe even now I am at such a stopover.”
Ciūnys first interacted with the Eurovision world when he provided backing vocals for Kotryna Juodzevičiūtė in the 2018 edition of „Eurovizijos“ dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka.
After this he had planned to enter the 2019 edition as a solo artist but says “I was scared when I saw the name of Monica Mary in the list of candidates. I wondered, I thought there was still no chance of winning. I was knocked out before everything started”
It was here that he first met The Roop, who ended up winning the 2019 edition. After hearing the recording, he contacted the lead singer to offer his help.
“I said that maybe this song would benefit from an extra spice, another male voice. He reacted nicely – it turns out the group itself was just thinking about it. Asked for my voice recording, the band decided I was fit. That’s how I found myself in their team last year, and this year I was also invited, ”said Ciūnys.
Finally, Ciūnys says that he is excited to get one step closer to the Eurovision stage and states that “I see Eurovision behind the scenes, every stage that leads to the stage. I learn to know everything if I ever participate myself in the future.”
Ciūnys is currently writing solo material and hopes to have a solo album out by the end of 2021.
