Rotterdam will roll out the Turquoise Carpet for the Opening Ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
The Opening Ceremony for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is set to take place at the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal and feature a Turquoise Carpet. The Opening Ceremony will take place on May 16th at 18:00 CEST and can be seen live on the Eurovision YouTube channel. The Opening Ceremony will mark the official start of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.
The 38 Delegations in Rotterdam will be transported to The Cruise Terminal via boat before walking the Turquoise Carpet. The boats will be greeted by a nautical salute and the Mayor of Rotterdam.
The Cruise Terminal is located at Wilhelminapier and served Holland America Line. The Cruise Terminal was also due to be used as the location of the Opening Ceremony of the cancelled Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with a Gold Carpe.
Last year Jelmar van der Wel of the Cruise Terminal commented:
It is a beautiful place with a unique view and it has many special stories. Of course an arrival place for international visitors to the city and in addition, legendary events have been organized for years. We are going to make it a spectacular opening, which will do our beautiful city justice.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will take place on May 18, 20, and 22 in Rotterdam. A total of 39 countries will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Eurovision 2020 was due to be held in Rotterdam after Duncan Laurence gave the Netherlands their first victory since 1975 with the song “Arcade”. After the cancelation of the 2020 contest, it was decided that Rotterdam would host the 2021 contest instead.
