Carola the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 has been named as the spokesperson for Sweden at next month’s contest.
Three-time Eurovision participant and winner of the 1991 contest in Rome, Carola has been named as the Swedish spokesperson for Eurovision 2021. The singer commented on Instagram that:
Feels just right right now this year and I’m so happy about it. It is an honorary assignment that will evoke many memories.
Sweden’s coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will see Edward af Sillén commentate on the competition for the tenth time. He is set to be joined by Christer Björkman in the commentary booth. Christer commented:
Edward and I have long dreamed of being able to comment on ESC together and now, after many years as head of the Swedish delegation and producer for the competition, we will be able to enjoy the contributions together. An honorable and perfect end to 20 magical years with the Melodifestivalen and Eurovision.

Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
