The city of Rotterdam has announced further details regarding the organisation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. In a letter from Said Kasmi, municipal executive for Education, Culture and Toursim, new plans for a hybrid Eurovillage have emerged.
At the time being, a physical Eurovillage “does not seem realistic”, the city of Rotterdam will therefore opt for a hybrid version. This would mean a socially distanced audience, a small podium and streamed performances. The audience could only enter the open-air village in shifts, keeping 1,5 m distance while being seated.
If the regulations will not allow a physical audience, the Eurovillage could be scaled down to an entirely online form. The activities of the city programme will also remain online for the time being. However, these activities will ensure that citizens of Rotterdam can experience hosting the Eurovision Song Contest even in times of lockdown.
The decision regarding a live audience, a physical Eurovillage and/or activities of the city programme will be taken mid-April.
Eurovision 2021
The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will take place on May 18, 20 and 22 in Rotterdam. A total of 41 countries will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Eurovision 2020 was due to be held in Rotterdam after Duncan Laurence gave the Netherlands their first victory since 1975 with the song “Arcade”. After the cancellation of the 2020 contest, it was decided that Rotterdam would host the 2021 contest instead.
