The Lithuanian Head of Delegation has confirmed that The Roop will film their backup performance next week in Vilnius.
Audrius Giržadas, the Head of Delegation for Lithuania, has stated that The Roop will be filming their backup performance for Eurovision 2021 next week. Mr Giržadas revealed more information regarding the stage that is being built in Lithuania that a number of countries will be used by a number of other countries to record their back-up performances.
A stage is being built at the Avia Solutions Group Arena in Vilnius for the recording, with Mr Giržadas commenting:
I don’t know if a stage of this size has ever been built in Lithuania for a concert of Lithuanian performers, with so many LED screens, lighting and equipment.
The stage is reported to be of a similar size and scale to that of the stage in Rotterdam for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. He went on to explain that the backup performance being recorded next week would be used up until the point that The Roop had their second rehearsal in Rotterdam, in which case the second rehearsal performance then becomes the backup tape for the contest.
Lithuania are currently the fifth favourites to win the Eurovision Song Contest having fallen back from being favourites one week ago. When asked whether Lithuania would be able to host if The Roop won, he commented:
We have somewhere to do and we have what we do, the biggest headache would be funds.
Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, however on their debut they finished in last place with nul points. Lithuania didn’t return to the contest until 1999 when Aiste finished 20th with the song “Strazdas”. Lithuania’s best result came in 2006 when LT United performed “We Are The Winners”; they finished 6th in the final with a total of 162 points. Lithuania’s only other top 10 finish came in 2016 when Donny Montell performed “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” in Stockholm, he received 12 points from the public in Ireland, Norway & United Kingdom.
