Germany has become the latest country to confirm their participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
In an interview with ESC Kompakt, Thomas Schreiber, Head of Entertainment at NDR, and Ulrike Ziesemer, Head of Delegation for Germany at Junior Eurovision, gave their views of Germany’s debut at last year’s contest and confirmed that Germany would take part in Junior Eurovision 2021.
“Thomas Schreiber: ‘I am happy to provide the answer. Yes, Germany will be at Junior Eurovision 2021.’
Ulrike Ziesemer : ‘Looking back, I am very proud of what our debutante Susan and the entire team have achieved. In our first year, we “did everything ourselves” in an extremely short time, from finding the candidate to producing the music video to the show video with KiKA and ZDF – and all of that despite various hurdles that the coronavirus put in the place. Of course we would have liked a better placement, but with the programs that we produced for KiKA and Das Erste in the week before the show, we were very successful in terms of both content and reach. Now we have learned a lot and are looking forward to France! “
Germany finished last on their Junior Eurovision debut. Germany was represented by Susan with the song “Stronger with You” scoring 66 points. Germany was last in the jury vote receiving 27 points, the highest of which was 6 points from France. They also ended last in the online vote with 39 points.

Germany in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Germany was due to participate in both the 2003 and 2004 contest but later withdrew. Despite this, a German delegation was sent to observe the contest on multiple occasions, including 2013, 2014 and and 2019. NDR also broadcast the 2015 and 2016 contests online. Germany is the last of the Big 5 nations to compete in the contest. Of note as well is that Viki Gabor, winner of Junior Eurovision 2019, was born in Germany.
Yess i was afraid that they wouldn’t come back bc of their last place!
Great news !! I hope for much more country ‘s to participate in Junior 2021. I am looking forward to it !!
