Close to 3.2 million viewers watched the third Semi-Final of Melodifestivalen 2021.
Melodifestivalen 2021 season is continuing to dominate the Swedish television ratings. This week’s Semi-Final saw a total of 3,188,000 viewers watched the third Semi-Final live, making it the most-watched show of the week. An extra 200,000 viewers saw the show online via SVTplay meaning in total 3.4 million viewers saw the third heat of Melodifestivalen 2021, the best figure for heat 3 since 2017. Overall 75,2 % of TV viewers in Sweden at the time of the show were watching.
In 2020 only 2.65 million viewers tuned in to watch last year’s third Semi-Final, meaning just under 500,000 extra views tuned in to watch this year. In fact the number for this year’s third Semi-Final is on par with the number of viewers for last year’s Melodifestivalen 2020 final, which saw 3.243 million viewers watch The Mamas win the contest.
So far all of this year’s Melodifestivalen Semi-Finals have seen at least 3 million viewers for each show when counting both TV and online viewers. So far 3.1 million viewers watched the second Semi-Final and 3.2 Million viewers saw the opening semi final.
The results of the third heat were:
- Charlotte Perelli – Still Young – Directly qualified for the final
- Emil Assergård – Om allting skiter sig – 5th Place
- Klara Hammarström – Beat of Broken Hearts – Second Chance
- Mustasch – Contagious – Eliminated in First Round
- Elisa – Den du är – Eliminated in First Round
- Alvaro Estrella – Baila Baila – Second Chance
- Tusse – Voices – Directly qualified for the final
The dates of the remaining Melodifestivalen shows are as follows:
- Fourth Semi Final – February 27
- Andra Chansen (Second Chance) – March 6
- Final – March 13
The winner of the Final on 13th March will go on to represent Sweden at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Due to Covid all six Melodifestivalen 2021 shows will take place in Annexet in Stockholm, with no live audience. The winner of the contest will go on to represent Sweden at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
