Blind Channel have won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021, and will represent Finland at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Dark Side”.
The grand final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021 was held tonight live from Mediapolis Studios, Tampere. Seven acts competing this evening for the right to represent Finland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, including last year’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu winner Aksel, and former Estonian representative Laura.
Tonight’s competing acts and point breakdown (jury + public vote) were as follows:
- Teflon Brothers x Pandora – “I Love You” (30 + 150)
- Aksel – “Hurt” (56 + 52)
- Laura – “Play” (4 + 9)
- Danny – “Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua” (“The Day When Everyone Loves Me”) (22 + 38)
- Oskr – “Lie” (62 + 53)
- Blind Channel – “Dark Side” (72 + 479)
- Ilta – “Kelle mä soitan” (“Who Will I Call”) (48 + 101)
Tonight’s results were calculated through 75% public and 25% jury vote, with juries from the UK, Switzerland, Poland, Iceland, Spain, Netherlands and the US. After placing 1st with both the public and the jury and scoring 551 points overall, Blind Channel were announced as the winners of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021. They will perform “Dark Side” in the 2nd half of the 2nd semi-final on 20 May.

Finland first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961, they debuted alongside Spain and Yugoslavia. Finland has finished last in the contest on 10 occasions and has received ‘nul points’ three times. It wasn’t until 2006 that Finland won the Eurovision Song Contest. Lordi represented the country in Athens with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” scoring 292 points, a record total at the time.
