12xal reports that Azerbaijan has chosen the song that will represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Azerbaijan is reported to have selected the song that Efendi will perform for Eurovision 2021. iTV made an open call to submit songs for Efendi who will represent Azerbaijan in Rotterdam this year. The search for the song was completed after one song was chosen upon receiving about 229 song submissions, only six of those songs were sent to the professional Focus Group, where one lucky song was chosen as Azerbaijan’s entry.
The name of the song has not been revealed yet. However, it is known that the filming of the music video has already begun in Baku. The title of the six songs were in the running:
- Mata Hari
- When I’m gone
- Breathing You
- Owe You Pretty
It is most likely that the music video will be finished by the end of February and the song will be released the second week of March along with the music video.
Efendi was set to represent Azerbaijan last May in Rotterdam, with “Cleopatra” but was unable to due to the cancellation of the contest because of Coronavirus Pandemic.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In 2018 Azerbaijan failed to qualify for the final for the first time, having previously had a 100% qualification record.
