NRK has officially announced that TIX will perform his song “Ut av mørket” in English at the 2021 Melodi Grand Prix final.
MGP contestant TIX will now sing his song “Ut av mørket” in English at the 2021 Melodi Grand Prix final. TIX first performed his song at the first heat of MGP back on January 16th in Norwegian alongside fan favourites KEiiNO. Both acts had already been pre-qualified for the MGP final.
“It feels very great to know that the people have so much confidence in me and cheer on me, despite the fact that my song so far has only been performed in Norwegian. Thank you very much!” – TIX
Following his performance in the first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix, singer TIX revealed that his song “Ut av mørket” would be translated into English for Eurovision should he win. TIX explained that the song was originally written in English for an international artist before deciding that he would perform the song himself. At the time it was unsure if the song would be performed in English in the final of Melodi Grand Prix.
The reaction to TIX’s performance in the first semi-final was mixed. The song did reach number 3 in the Norwegian charts and is the most-streamed song on Spotify of this year MGP entries. However, newspaper reviews in Norway and many fans have rated the song and performance poorly. Fan favourites KEiiNO have so far only made it to 28 in the local charts with their song “Monument” but are still the second most steamed MGP2021 act on Spotify with 1.5 million streams. So far at the time of this publication TIX song “Ut av mørket” has been streamed 2.3 million times.
“It’s great that there are so many who like the song. But the final is so strong, with several insanely good contributions. It is the audience that ultimately decides” – Alexandra Rotan (Keiino)
Melodi Grand Prix continues this evening weekend with the fifth semi-final:
- Semi-Final Five – February 13
- Second Chance – February 15
- Final – February 20
