Yesterday the mayor of Rotterdam, Mr. Ahmed Aboutaleb has revealed the countdown clock for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 22.
Executive producer Sietse Bakker has announced that this event marks the start of the Eurovision season. He and his team are working hard to adapt the planning to the restrictions and rules that apply for this current period of time. Bakker added that almost all ideas and plans have been re-evaluated recently.
Bakker revealed that the area in front of the stage where 2,000 members of the public would have stood, will be transformed into a Green Room for all the competing artists. The executive producer said they are currently exploring ideas as to how the Green Room could make up for an empty arena in case no audience is allowed.
It is still uncertain how large the audience will be as the number of COVID-19 infections will have to be reduced first until then. However, it is possible to have exceptional measures by the Dutch government for locations with an area larger than 2000 square metres. The option of a no-audience Eurovision Song Contest is not off the table yet, the final decision is set to be made in mid-April.
