AVROTROS has confirmed the selection committee that chooses Jeangu Macrooy’s entry for Eurovision 2021.
Speaking to Songfestival Weblog the Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS has confirmed the members of the committee that will choose the nations entry for Eurovision 2021. The Netherlands has used a selection committee to select the nations entry for Eurovision since 2013, the committee is formed of:
- Cornald Maas – Commentator
- Jan Smit – Singer, commentator and host of Eurovision 2021
- Eric van Staade – Director of AVROTROS
- Joyce Hoedelmans – AVROTROS
- Coen Swijnenberg – Radio DJ
- Sander Lantinga – Radio DJ
- Jeangu Macrooy – Dutch entrant for Eurovision 2021
This is the same committee that selected the Dutch entry for last years cancelled contest. AVROTROS has not confirmed whether the song that Jeangu will perform has been selected.
Who is Jeangu Macrooy?
Jeangu Macrooy was born on November 6 1993 in Paramaribo, Suriname. In 2011, he formed the band Between Towers with his twin brother Xillian. He moved to the Netherlands in 2014 to study songwriting at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede.
During his studies in Enschede, Jeangu met with music producer Perquisite and signed to his label in December 2015. He released his debut EP “Brave Enough” in April 2016 and his debut single “Gold” was used in an advertisement for HBO. A year later, he released his first full-length album “High on You”. His second album “Horizon” was released in February 2019. He then went on his first headline tour of Germany.

The Netherlands debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has gone on to compete in all bar four contests. To date the Netherlands has won the contest on five occasions; 1957, 1959, 1969, 1975 and most recently 2019. Prior to Duncan Laurence’s victory in Tel Aviv, the Netherlands had been waiting 44 years for their next victory. Duncan Laurence won the contest in Israel with the song “Arcade”.
