S4C the Welsh public broadcaster has announced that Côr Cymru will not take place in 2021 and has been delayed until 2022.
Côr Cymru, the Welsh selection process for Eurovision Choir, has been delayed until 2022 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Auditions for the competition had already been delayed from December to a later date due to the pandemic. The final of Côr Cymru 2021 was set to take place on May 2, 2021 at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. A panel of judges would have selected the choir that will represent Wales at Eurovision Choir.
The new dates for the contest are:
- Semi-Finals – February 18 to 20, 2022
- Children’s Final – April 2, 2022
- Grand Final – April 3, 2022
Wales had been the only country to date to confirm their intention to participate in Eurovision Choir 2021, with the delay to their selection process it is not known whether Wales will be competing this year. The European Broadcasting Union and Interkultur are both yet to state whether Eurovision Choir will be held this year.
Wales was one of nine countries to participate in the first edition of Eurovision Choir in 2017. Côr Merched Sir Gâr finished 2nd for Wales in the contest in Riga, Latvia. In 2019 Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion represented Wales in Gothenburg, but failed to make it through to the final three.
