Gjon’s Tears has revealed in an interview to TopRadio Albania that 20 songs were created for his Swiss 2021 Eurovision entry.
Switzerland’s Gjon’s Tears has already announced via Instgram that his 2021 song has been selected, however he revealed a little more about the process leading up to this selection in a recent interview.
He revealed that, due to needing a new song for 2021, 20 songs were performed in the time frame of a month and a half. A jury was used to make the final decision on the song. In the interview, Gjon’s Tears commented that it was like having a “competition within a competition” and that the outcome was better than expected. He did not give any indication on when we would get to hear the song, but expressed his excitement for the world to hear the Swiss entry.
Switzerland have internally selected their song since 2019 after having dropped their national final Die Entscheidungsshow. Gjon’s Tears’ comments are in line with the procedure that SRF announced back in May. The Swiss broadcaster said the songs would be be presented to a 100 person viewer panel and a 20 person jury of international specialists and that they were “looking for a modern, striking song that complies with international requirements. The lyrics should have a strong, clear and understandable message”.
