As the long awaited Melodifestivalen line-up announcement is getting nearer, SVT has revealed more details about the announcement of the 28 competing artists in next year’s competition. Karin Gunnarson, the Swedish head of delegation reported in September that in total 2747 songs were submitted.
In the last few days the official Melodifestivalen Twitter account for English-speaking fans (@melfest_en) has run a 5-day-countdown until Tuesday. Because of this many fans expected that the announcement regarding the competing songs would be made on Tuesday.
Instead of revealing all artists taking part in Melodifestivalen 2021 on one day, one artist will be announced at a rate of one per hour. The schedule for the announcements will be as following:
- 9 artists will be announced on Tuesday, December 1st, between 7:00-15:00 (CET)
- 9 more will be announced on Wednesday, December 2nd, between 7:00-15:00 (CET)
- The remaining 10 will be announced on Thursday, December 3rd, between 7:00-16:00 (CET)
Details of the competing artists and their songs will be revealed via SVT’s social media accounts. The Swedish broadcaster is planning to announce the contestants of each semi-final at a later point in time.
Contrary to traditions of previous years, all shows will be broadcast from the venue Annexet in Stockholm with no audience present.
During the previous weeks, Swedish media have reported several rumored artists who are allegedly taking part in next year’s edition of the Swedish pre-selection, including both previous Melfest winners and newcomers. You can read more about it here.
