Iveta Mukuchyan has given her first interview since being in the running to represent Germany at Eurovision 2021 and then being dropped out of the selection.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Euro Trip, Iveta Mukuchyan has given her side of the story around who she was in the running to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The singer who represented Armenia at Eurovision 2016 explained that:
“I got a call [to say] that I was chosen from the voting of 200 experts in Germany as one of the favourites to participate for Germany in 2021, then a couple of days later I got a call saying “we really apologise but there was a mistake”
Originally the singer then took to social media saying that she believed her removal from the selection to her waving the flag of Nagorno-Karabakh in the Green Room at Eurovision 2016. She went on to say:
“I considered the reason they didn’t take me was my political act of 2016. The Germans explained to me that not being chosen had nothing to do with my act back then. Germany doesn’t want an artist who’s participated for another country. There was just a technical issue that put me on the list.”
Iveta also discusses whether she would return to the Eurovision Song Contest and her love of the fan community and how they have embraced her.
