Former United Kingdom Eurovision representative James Fox hopes to return to the contest as a songwriter.
Speaking on the latest The Euro Trip podcast, James Fox has revealed that he has written a song for Eurovision. The UK’s entrant from Istanbul 2004 explained that the song was written around a decade ago and had seen interest from a number of countries to go to the competition:
I did an interview not so long ago and I may have said I have the winning song. I wrote this song with a friend of mine called Mads Hauge who’s responsible for a lot of Pixie Lott’s number one in the UK and we wrote this song about a decade ago and we’ve had several countries who said “we like that, we want that, we’ll take that”, there’s been four different countries in that decade who said they want the song but said no because I foolishly held it back because I wanted it for the UK.
So what sort of song is ‘United By Song’?, James explained that:
It’s not a million miles away from the Johnny Logan-esque ballad, it’s a cross between that and the Katrina and the Waves anthemic ballad. It’s very emotive, it talks about a collective coming together. It’s called United By Song. With the contest, everyone is united by songs, it talks about a relationship with songs, so with the word united in the title with the United Kingdom, it just hammers it home.
