RTVE has announced that Soleá Fernández will be representing Spain at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
The Spanish representative for the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest is Soleá Fernández. Soleá has been internally selected by the Spanish public broadcaster following the same selection method that saw Melani represent Spain in Gliwice.
The song that Soleá will be performing at Junior Eurovision 2020 is currently being worked on and will be revealed at a later date.
Soleá commented on her selection:
“Representing Spain at Junior Eurovision is everything for me. It’s a dream that I have always had. It’s incredible to able to stand on a stage in front of millions of people. It’s a dream come true.”
Soleá was born on June 19 2011 in Seville and comes from the Farruco family, one of the most famous flamenco families in Spain. At the age of 3, she performed in public for the first time at the Maestranza bullring in Seville with her family. She has since gone on to appear in many flamenco shows in Seville and throughout Spain. She has also appeared on the Canal Sur talkshow Menuda noche and has walked for flamenco dress designers Vicky Martín Berrocal and Rocío Peralta at the Salón Internacional de la Moda Flamenca. Apart from flamenco, Soleá also enjoys singing pop and soul music.
Spain took part in the contest last year for the first time since 2006, where they finished in 3rd place with Melani Garcia’s “Marte”. The nation had appeared in the first 4 installments in the contest from 2003-2006, even winning the contest in 2004 with “Antes muerta que sencilla” by María Isabel before taking a long break from 2007-2018. Spain hold a very impressive track record in the contest with Melani retaining the success of the nation finishing top 5 in all 5 of their attempts.
