Agathonas Iakovidis who represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmo, Sweden has died at the age of 65.
Agathonas Iakovidis has died at the age of 65 today. The famous Greek folk singer is best known for having competed at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 alongside Koza Mostra with the song “Alcohol Is Free”. They finished 6th in the Grand Final, the nation’s best result that decade.
He was born in Evangelismos in 1955 and was the child of refugees. He was self taught musician and performing having started his career in 1973. He released his first album in 1977 and went on to be famous in Greece for performing in the rebetiko style.
Earlier this year the performer had paid tribute to hospital staff in Thessaloniki who were dealing with COVID-19 patients. He performed alongside fellow musicians at the entrance to hospital to express his thanks to the medical workers.
