CyBC has confirmed to Eurovision Fun that Cyprus will not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
The Cypriot public broadcaster CyBC has confirmed that the broadcaster will not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Warsaw. Head of Delegation Evi Papamichael confirmed to Eurovision Fun that the broadcaster would not be returning this year, having last participated in the contest in 2017.
Cyprus debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 in Copenhagen. They participated every year between 2003 and 2009 with the exception of 2005. They returned to the contest in 2014, before taking a one-year break. Their highest placing in the contest is 8th in both the 2004 and 2006 contests. The 2008 contest was also hosted in Limassol. On their last participation in 2017, Nicole Nicolaou finished last with “I Wanna Be a Star.”.
Junior Eurovision 2020
Junior Eurovision 2020 is to be held on November 29 in the Polish capital of Warsaw. The competition is being hosted by the Polish public broadcaster TVP, after Viki Gabor took victory with the song “Superhero”. The show will be staged in a TV studio facility in Warsaw, not a large arena as has been seen in previous years.
