The Portuguese public broadcaster RTP has stated that it is ‘highly likely’ to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
Speaking to ESC Portugal, the Portuguese public broadcaster has stated that a decision regarding participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 will be made in the next few days. The broadcaster added that it is “highly likely” that Portugal will be competing this November in Warsaw.
Portugal is one of a number of countries that competed in 2019 that has yet to state whether they will compete in Warsaw. The broadcasters of North Macedonia, Armenia, Italy, Malta and Albania have also not stated whether they are competing. Wales and Australia have both withdrawn due to COVID-19.
Joana Almeida represented Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with “Vem comigo”. She finished 16th with 43 points.
Junior Eurovision 2020
Junior Eurovision 2020 is to be held on November 29 in the Polish capital of Warsaw. The competition is being hosted by the Polish public broadcaster TVP, after Viki Gabor took victory with the song “Superhero”. The show will be staged in a TV studio facility in Warsaw, not a large arena as has been seen in previous years.

Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Portugal debuted at the 2006 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Budapest, Romania. The country placed second-last that year and the year later, before withdrawing in 2008. They were not to return until 2017 where they were represented by Mariana Venancio, who placed 14th with her song “YouTuber”.
