Eurofestivales reports that Australia’s Junior Eurovision participation is set to return to SBS from ABC.
SBS is reportedly back in control of Australian participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the first time since the 2016 contest in Malta. ABC has informed Eurofestivales that the broadcaster is no longer in charge of Australian participation, having returned the contest back to SBS.
In 2017 SBS had signed an agreement with ABC to find a more suitable home for the competition. ABC aired the contest on its children’s channel between 2017 and 2019, SBS in contrast does not have a children specific channel.
SBS is according to Eurofestivales currently examining options regarding Australia’s participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020. No decision has been made by the broadcaster regarding whether they will participate.
Australia was represented by Jordan Anthony with the song “We Will Rise” at the 2019 contest. He finished 8th scoring a total of 121 points, he was 7th with the juries scoring 82 points, and 13th with the online vote scoring 39 points.
