LTV, the Latvian public broadcaster, has confirmed that they will not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
Latvia will not be participating in this years Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Warsaw, Poland. LTV confirmed to Eurofestivales that the broadcaster has no intention of returning to the competition this year.
Latvia was one of the original sixteen countries to take part in the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. The country competed in the contest for a period of three years before withdrawing from the contest. Their best result during this period was at the 2003 contest where Dzintars Čīča finished 9th with a total of 37 points, this included 8 points from Belarus.
Latvia returned to the contest in 2010 when the contest traveled to Minsk, Belarus. Šarlote Lēnmane & Sea Stones brought them their only their second ever top 10 finish with the song “Viva la Dance”, she scored 51 points, the highest points total for a Latvian Junior Eurovision entry. Following the 2011 contest in Yerevan, Latvia withdrew from the contest and has not returned.
Junior Eurovision 2020
Junior Eurovision 2020 is to be held on November 29 in the Polish capital of Warsaw. The competition is being hosted by the Polish public broadcaster TVP, after Viki Gabor took victory with the song “Superhero”. The show will be staged in a TV studio facility in Warsaw, not a large arena as has been seen in previous years.
