ORF is set to broadcast a special 45 minute documentary looking back at Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Austrian national broadcaster is set to broadcast ‘Österreich 12 Punkte – die Song Contest Erfolgsgeschichte’ on May 16. The documentary will look at the acts and songs that have represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest, as well as the nations two winners Udo Jürgens and Conchita.
This is the second of ORF’s specially commissioned Eurovision broadcasts this year. Der kleine Song Contest saw a jury of past Austrian entrants score all of this years entries, with the public then voting for their favourite out of the top three. Daði og Gagnamagnið won the show.
Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, Bob Martin represented the country on their debut, but finished in last place scoring just 3 points. The country has gone on to finish last in the contest on 8 occasions. Austria has won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgen performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later than Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix” scoring a total of 290 points.
