Scotland will not make their Junior Eurovision debut this year.
Scottish broadcaster BBC Alba have confirmed that they will not make their debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year, following earlier reports that they were looking into their first participation in 2020. BBC Alba were in talks with the EBU regarding their debut in the past few months, but have now released statement revealing that they have “no current plans”.
Should BBC Alba decide to participate in Junior Eurovision in the future, they would be following in the footsteps of the Welsh broadcaster S4C. S4C debuted in Eurovision Choir of the Year in 2017, before going on to make their debut appearance in Junior Eurovision in 2018.
The country made their debut at their first Eurovision event last August at Eurovision Choir in Gothenburg, Sweden.
To date, the following countries have confirmed participation in the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Poland:
- Georgia
- Ireland
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Russia
- Spain
- Ukraine
