Elisa has revealed on social media that RTP has not internally selected her to represent Portugal at Eurovision 2021.
Elisa who was due to represent Portugal at Eurovision 2020 with the song “Medo do sentir” has revealed that RTP has chosen not to internally select her for Eurovision 2021. The singer revealed on social media that she will not be internally selected by the Portuguese national broadcaster to compete in next years Eurovision Song Contest, as has been seen in other nations.
To date the following nations have confirmed their 2021 participants:
- Azerbaijan – Samira Efendi
- Belgium – Hooverphonic
- Georgia – Tornika Kipiani
- Greece – Stefania
- Netherlands – Jeangu Macrooy
- Spain – Blas Cantó
- Switzerland – Gjon’s Tears
- Ukraine – Go-A
To date Estonia is the only nation to state that their 2020 selection winner will not be chosen directly for 2021. Uku Suviste has been told that he must compete in Eesti Laul 2021 but will be given a direct place in the semi-finals.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was scheduled to take place in at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam on the May 12, 14 and 16. The Netherlands won the right to host the competition following their win in 2019 with Duncan Laurence and the song “Arcade”.

Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 represented by Antonio Calvario, the country finished last scoring nul points. Prior to 2016, the best result of Portugal was 6th place which came in 1996 when Lucia Moniz performed in Oslo. She scored 92 points, receiving the 12 points from both Norway and Cyprus. Since their debut, Portugal have missed a total of five contests. In 2017, Portugal produced a spectacular win when Salvador Sobral took home the crystal microphone with his song “Amar Pelos Dois.” The 2018 contest was held in Lisbon, Portugal for the first time.
