Ben & Tan are hoping for a place in the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021 should they not be internally selected by DR.
The management of Ben & Tan who were due to represent Denmark at Eurovision 2020, have stated that the duo are hoping to compete in the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021. Anders Fredslund-Hansen told Ekstra Bladet that:
I have discussed it with Ben & Tan, and what I have called for on their behalf is that Ben & Tan will be invited to the Danish Melodi Grand Prix next year with a wildcard so that they can participate in the competition with a new song. To guarantee them a place in the show, I think should be in their place. Then they can have a chance on an equal footing with nine other participants.
Of course they are upset that they can’t put up ‘Yes’, but they also understand that it is not interesting for anyone in 2021 to hear a song that is one year old. But we really hope they can have a chance if DR runs the competition the same way this year, and we would very much like them to decide it fairly quickly as it will give a little bit of energy back to a balloon, that is punctured.
DR has informed Ekstra Bladet that no decisions have yet been taken regarding Eurovision 2021 or a potential Danish selection process. The broadcaster will be considering its options regarding 2021 in the coming weeks.
