The Director of the Ahoy Arena Jolanda Jansen, has stated that she is doing everything she can to keep Eurovision in Rotterdam for 2021.
Following the announcement of the cancellation of Eurovision 2020, Jolanda Jansen has stated that the Ahoy Arena is doing everything it can to keep the contest in Rotterdam for 2021. Ms Jansen told AD.nl that she accepts that the contest had to be cancelled, “You know, there was no choice” adding that everything is relative in the current climate.
The Director said that as of Thursday last week when gatherings over 100 people were banned in the Netherlands, that thoughts about the contest could be cancelled. Understandably Ms Jansen acknowledges people will have wished for the contest to go ahead but that “you see what happened to us in a few days at a rapid pace. Then it is clear that this decision was going to be made.”
Looking forward to 2021 the Ahoy Arena and the city of Rotterdam are focused on keeping the contest in the city;
We must see what is possible in Ahoy. The agenda seems free for May next year, but there are always events that have not yet been announced. We will do everything we can to organize Eurovision 2021 at the Rotterdam Ahoy.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was scheduled to take place in at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam on the May 12, 14 and 16. The Netherlands won the right to host the competition following their win in 2019 with Duncan Laurence and the song “Arcade”.
