ERR has announced that Eesti Laul will select the nations 2021 representative, meaning Uku Suviste will not be going direct to Eurovision.
Uku Suviste and his song “What is Love” will not be representing Estonia at next years Eurovision Song Contest. Head of Delegation Tomi Rahula explained that:
Unfortunately this is the case, and next year there will be a new song contest. One and a half years later, nobody goes to the event with the same songs, this is not a new story anymore.
As a result ERR will be running Eesti Laul again in 2021 to determine the Estonian representative for Eurovision, with a new song selected for the contest in Rotterdam. However ERR has confirmed that should Uku Suviste submit a song for the 2021 contest he will go direct to the semi-finals of the contest.
The European Broadcasting Union will be working in the next few days to determine what will happen with the selected artists and songs for the now cancelled 2020 contest. It is not known whether they will allow songs or artists selected in 2020 to compete, or if new selections will be held in 2021.

Estonia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 alongside six other countries. At the contest in Dublin they were represented by Silvi Vrait, who finished 2nd last scoring just 2 points. In 2001 Estonia won the Eurovision Song Contest for the only time to date. They were represented by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL, who performed the song “Everybody” and took a surprise victory in Copenhagen. After the success of the late-90s and early 00s, Estonia failed to qualify for the final from 2004-2008. In 2009 Estonia launched a new selection show, Eesti Laul, and has since qualified for the final six out of ten attempts.
