The Czech broadcaster reports that the Reference Group for the Eurovision Song Contest will meet tomorrow to discuss the upcoming contest.
Ceska Televize’s official Eurovision page has reported that the Reference Group for the contest will be meeting tomorrow. The meeting is set to discuss the upcoming contest in the context of coronavirus. The broadcaster reports that filming for the postcards for the contest have been suspended in the Netherlands, the acts from Israel and Lithuania had already stated they would not travel to the country for filming their postcard.
Currently three out of the four preview events have been cancelled, while the London Eurovision Party is assessing whether it will be taking place. As of the end of last week the European Broadcasting Union and host broadcasters stated that preparations for the contest are progressing as normal.
The Director General of RTVSLO revealed on Friday that the EBU is considering a plan B for the contest. Natalija Gorscak explained that:
At EBU, they are preparing as if Eurovision will be, I am personally in touch with management who has a plan B, which suggests that we will become more involved.
In Slovenia, this is supposed to be in the studio. If this scenario were to be implemented, each member would rotate their recording, then probably someone would link it. That’s what they’re thinking. They are still talking about everything, but in principle they are acting as if Rotterdam were.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 is schedule to take place in at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam on the May 12, 14 and 16. The Netherlands won the right to host the competition following their win in 2019 with Duncan Laurence and the song “Arcade”.
