Serbia’s entrants for Eurovision 2020 have confirmed that they will be performing their song “Hasta la vista” in Serbian.
In an interview with Televiziji srpske dijaspore, Hurricane have confirmed that they will be performing in Serbian at Eurovision 2020. The trio had been discussing the language that “Hasta la vista” should be performed in at Eurovision since winning Beovizija. Ivana Nikolic explained:
We consulted with our team. They say it is still better to sing in Serbian. So, it will be in Serbian.
This will be the third year in a row that Serbia will be performing in Serbian at the Eurovision Song Contest, and the tenth since they debuted in the contest in 2007.
Hurricane were selected to represent Serbia in Rotterdam by winning both the televote and public vote in the final of Beovizija. The group received 19,781 votes in the final, over 6,000 more votes than the second placed act in the televote.
Serbia have competed as an independent nation in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2007, and have seen great success in the competition. Their first entry in 2007, Marija Šerifović’s “Molitva”, won the contest in Helsinki with 268 points, making Serbia’s debut one of the most successful in Eurovision history. From then up to their year’s break in 2014, Serbia finished in the top 10 a further two times, including a 3rd place finish in 2012 with Željko Joksimović’s “Nije ljubav stvar”.
