29 year old Samira Efendi is the likely representative of Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. 12 Xal reports that a Dutch duo formed of Tony Cornellissen and Luuk van Beers are currently in Baku working on the Azerbaijani entry for Rotterdam.
The two are currently being followed by Samira Efendi on Instagram. The song that has been written by Tony Cornellissen and Luuk van Beers is to feature ethnic Azerbaijani instruments, with both pictured in a recording studio with Kenoud today. Tony is not new to the Eurovision Song Contest having been one of the songwriters behind Germany’s entry in 2013, “Glorious”.
Samira Efendi was one of the singers shortlisted by the Azerbaijani national broadcaster to represented the nation at the 2019 contest. She has previous experience competing on behalf of her country, having participated in Silk Way Star which was broadcast across Central Asia, Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In 2018 Azerbaijan failed to qualify for the final for the first time, having previously had a 100% qualification record.
