RAI has confirmed that ‘Fai rumore’ will be the Italian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
The Italian national broadcaster has confirmed that ‘Fai rumore’ will be the Italian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The song will still need to undergo a revamp to ensure that it meets the 3 minute rule, the song is currently 3 minutes and 36 seconds long.
Diodato was selected to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest having won the 70th edition of Festival di Sanremo. The singer was the second favourite of the demoscopic jury, favourite of the press and third place with the Italian televote. Diodato beat Francesco Gabbani by a margin of 5.32% thanks to his landslide with the press.
Diodato has been performing since 2007 when he release his debut EP. He participated in the newcomers contest at Sanremo in 2014 and went on to compete in the Campioni category in 2018 where he finished 8th. He returned to the contest this year and won with the song ‘Fai rumore’.
Italy debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has participated a total of 42 times to date. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having last participated in the contest in 1997, the country has withdrawn from the contest on a number of occasions in the past. Italy has won the contest twice, the first time being in 1964 and the latest being in 1990. Italy’s hosting of the contest in 1991 has been remembered as one of the most chaotic contests to date. Since their return in 2011 Italy has finished in the top 10 on seven occasions.
