CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster, has revealed that “Running” is the title of the song that Sandro will perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam.
“Running” will officially be released in March. Alfie Arcuri, who participated in Eurovision – Australia Decides 2019, is the lead of the songwriting team behind the Cypriot entry. Martin Dietmann, who worked on Conchita Wurst’s winning performance at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, will be the Artistic Director for Sandro’s performance in Rotterdam.
Who is Sandro?
Sandro Nicolas (Alessandro Rütten) was born in Germany to an American father and Greek mother. He first came to public attention when he auditioned for Das Supertalent in (Germany’s Got Talent) 2015. In 2018, he took part in The Voice of Germany and reached the sing-off stage before being eliminated.
In 2019 he represented his father’s home country, the United States, in New Wave 2019, where he used his stage name Sandro Nicolas for the first time. He finished sixth overall.

Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest
Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Their best result in the contest comes from their 2018 entrant Eleni Foureira, who placed 2nd with her song “Fuego”. Cyprus withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 due to financial difficulties, but returned again in 2015 where they were represented by John Karagiannis.
