Alfie Arcuri has been named as the lead of the songwriting team behind Cyprus’ entry for Eurovision 2020.
Australia Alfie Arcuri has been named by CyBC as the lead of the team working on the Cypriot entry for this years Eurovision Song Contest. The singer will be known to Eurovision fans having competed in Eurovision – Australia Decides in 2018 with the song ‘To Myself’ where he finished 5th.
Alfie first rose to fame having participated in the fifth season of The Voice which he went on to win. He then release his debut album ‘Zenith’ which went on to reach No.5 in the Australian charts. Since Eurovision – Australia Decides he took part in Cerbul de Aur 2019 in Romania and was awarded the prize for best interpretation of a Romanian song.
Who is Sandro Nicolas?
Sandro Nicolas (Alessandro Rütten) was born in Germany to an American father and Greek mother. He first came to public attention when he auditioned for Das Supertalent in (Germany’s Got Talent) 2015. In 2018, he took part in The Voice of Germany and reached the sing-off stage before being eliminated.
In 2019 he represented his father’s home country, the United States, in New Wave 2019, where he used his stage name Sandro Nicolas for the first time. He finished sixth overall.
Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Their best result in the contest comes from their 2018 entrant Eleni Foureira, who placed 2nd with her song “Fuego”. Cyprus withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 due to financial difficulties, but returned again in 2015 where they were represented by John Karagiannis.
