Comedian Klemen Slakonja has been named as the host of the 2020 edition of EMA later this month.
Klemen Slakonja is returning as the host of EMA, the Slovenian selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest. Klemen has hosted the contest three times previously in 2011, 2012 and 2016. The comedian, presenter and TV personality has promised an evening of entertainment for Slovenian viewers.
RTVSLO also revealed that there will be a preview show broadcast on the Friday evening, oddaja Ema pred Emo. The show will bring viewers behind the scenes at the rehearsals and talk to the participants ahead of the final on Saturday.
Twelve acts will be competing in EMA:
- Ana Soklič – Voda (Water)
- Božidar Wolfand Wolf – Maybe Someday
- Gaja Prestor – Verjamem vase (I believe in myself)
- Imset – Femme Fatale
- Inmate – The Salt
- Klara Jazbec – Stop the World
- Lina Kuduzović – Man Like U
- Manca Berlec – Večnost (Eternity)
- Simon Vadnjal – Nisi sam (You are not alone)
- Tinkara Kovač – Forever
- Saška – Še kar lovim tvoj nasmeh (I’m still chasing your smile)
- Parvani Violet – Cupid
EMA 2020 will take place on February 22 in RTVSLO Studio 1 in Ljubljana. A three-member jury will select to two acts to advance to the superfinal. Public voting will then decide which of the two superfinalists will represent Slovenia in Rotterdam.
Slovenia was one of three countries to join the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993. The country qualified through a specially organised selection round called “Kvalifikacija za Millstreet” which was hosted in Slovenia, seven countries competed for three spots in Eurovision 1993. The country has participated in 22 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result came in 1995 when Darja Švajger finished 7th scoring a total of 84 points, she is closely followed by Nuša Derenda who finished 7th in the 2001 contest with 70 points.
