PBS has confirmed Malta’s participation in the 2020 edition of Eurovision Young Musicians in Zagreb, Croatia.
Malta is set to compete in Eurovision Young Musicians 2020 in Zagreb, Croatia this June. PBS has launched its search for Malta’s representative in the competition this summer. The application window is open until March 3, with a selection to be held between March and the first week of April, full rules can be found here.
Malta made its debut in Eurovision Young Musicians in 2014 and has appeared in every contest since. At the last contest in 2018 Malta was represented by Bernice Sammut Attard who performed on the piano. She did not qualify for the final and was knocked out in the Semi-Finals.
Eurovision Young Musicians 2020
The 20th installment of Eurovision Young Musicians will take place this year in the Croatian capital of Zagreb. The competition is set to take place on an open-air stage in King Tomislav Square with the grand final on the June 21 2020. This will be the first Eurovision event to be held in an independent Croatia. The Eurovision Song Contest was held in Zagreb in 1990, when Croatia was part of Yugoslavia.

Eurovision Young Musicians has been held bi-annually since 1982. The contest was based on the format of The BBC Young Musician of the Year in the United Kingdom. Performers in the contest must be aged under 18 years and are selected by their participating broadcaster. Each performer performs a piece of classical music of their choice accompanied by the local orchestra. The winner is decided by a jury made up of classical music experts and talents.
