The second Semi-Final of Melodifestivalen 2020 will take place this Saturday night in Göteborg. Ahead of the show, the performance details of competing entries have been revealed. Anna Bergendahl is one of the seven artists taking to the stage this week, Sweden’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010 and a competitor at last year’s Melodifestivalen. Former Melodifestivalen participants Linda Bengtzing, Dotter, Alvaro and Mendez will perform on Saturday night.
Thorsten Flinck, who was originally due to take part in the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen, is currently being charged criminally with unlwaful threat and vandalism. As such, SVT took the decision to disqualify him from the contest. While Thorsten is no longer taking part in the contest, his song ”Miraklernas tid” will still be performed at next Saturday’s semi-final in Göteborg by Jan Johansen.
Jan Johansen joins Paul Rey in making the rare decision to perform without any backing dancers or singers on stage. In contrast, Anna Bergendahl will be accompanied by six dancers and will be backed by the vocals of Britta Bergström as she closes the show.
Sacha Jean-Baptiste has choreographed each of this week’s seven performances.
The final of the event will take place in the Friends Arena, in Stockholm on March 7th, preceded by the Second Chance round (Andra Chansen) in Eskilstuna on February 29th. The winner of the contest will go on to represent Sweden at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
