Following reports that discussions were ongoing with SNRT about Eurovision participation, a spokesperson has stated that they are unaware of any discussions.
A spokesperson for the Moroccan national broadcaster SNRT has stated that they are currently unaware of any discussions between the broadcaster and the EBU about a return to the Eurovision Song Contest. Karim Sbai, Director of Communications told Telquel that:
At my level, for the moment, I have no information on this subject.
Earlier this week Jon Ola Sand the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest stated that the EBU has been in discussions with Morocco regarding participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Morocco has only participated in the Eurovision Song Contest once in 1980. The nation was represented by Samira Bensaïd with the song ‘Bitaqat Hub’. Morocco finished 18 out of 19 participants scoring 7 points, all of which came from Italy. SNRT has showed no public interest in the contest since.
