Dami Im and Kate Miller-Heidke are set to take to the stage of Eurovision – Australia Decides next month.
SBS has announced that two former Eurovision participants for Australia will be taking to the Gold Coast stage next month. Dami Im and Kate Miller-Heidke have been named as the guest performers for the 2020 edition of Eurovision -Australia Decides.
Dami Im will be taking to the stage with a brand new single, while Kate will be performing a re-imagined version of her 2019 Eurovision entry “Gravity”. Kate Miller-Heidke commented:
I’m so excited to return to where it all began and once again perform as part of Eurovision – Australia Decides – this time without the pressure of trying to beat out nine other amazing acts! I’m also honoured to have been asked to be on this year’s jury. Winning the inaugural ‘Australia Decides’ was the start of a life-changing whirlwind and I’m looking forward to seeing the adventure begin for our next Eurovision contender.
Eurovision – Australia Decides takes place on Saturday the 8th of February 2020. This will be Australia’s 6th entry at the Eurovision Song Contest and second time that Australia have opted for a national selection. Last year, Kate Miller-Heidke was the first winner of the competition with her song “Zero Gravity” eventually finishing 9th in Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Australia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 as part of celebrations marking 60 years of the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster SBS has broadcast Eurovision in Australia since 1983. Australia’s best result to date came in 2016 Australia when Dami Im, with the song “Sound of Silence,” finished in 2nd place in the final scoring 511 points, just 23 points away from victory.
