North Macedonia looks set to internally select its act and song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
Macedonia in Eurovision, which reports on the Eurovision Song Contest with a North Macedonian focus, tweeted today that MRT will be selecting its entry for Eurovision 2020 internally. The tweet was as follows:
MRT will select the Macedonian entry for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest internally.
There have been meetings with artists, producers and journalists regarding the 20th participation of the nation.

As mentioned in the tweet, this will be North Macedonia’s 20th appearance in the Eurovision Song Contest since their debut in 1998.
The tweet also mentions that meetings have taken place among artists, producers and journalists to select a suitable candidate for the upcoming contest. However the Twitter account also later confirmed that the date in which the entry will be publicly released is not yet known.
North Macedonian broadcasters MKRTV have opted for an internal selection for their entry at the contest since 2016. Long running contest Skopje Fest had previously been used at the method to select the artist representing the country in Eurovision, however this method was rested in 2015.
In 2019, Tamara Todevska represented the country with her song “Proud”, becoming the first artist to represent the country with their new name North Macedonia. Tamara managed to qualify for the final after finishing in 2nd place in the second semi final, making this North Macedonia’s first appearance in the final since 2012. During the final, Tamara eventually managed to secure 7th place which is North Macedonia’s best result in their participation history. Additionally, Tamara was actually the winning entry of the jury vote.

North Macedonia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998, however, two years earlier they attempted to participate but was knocked out in the pre-qualifying round. In 2016 they were represented by Kaliopi for a second time with the song “Dona”, she missed out on the final finishing in 11th in her semi-final. North Macedonia’s best result to date is a 7th place finish in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest represented by Tamara Todevska and the song “Proud”.
