The Russian delegation decided against asking to perform again at Junior Eurovision 2019, after Denberel’s in-ear monitor failed.
The Russian delegation has confirmed to local press that it decided not to appeal for a second performance during the final of Junior Eurovision 2019. The delegation during the performance Denberel Oorzhak’s performance his in-ear monitor failed, but Denberel continued to sing and worked through the issue.
Denberel and Tatyanna finished 13th in the final on Sunday with the song “A Time For Us”. The result was the worst to date for Russia in the competition. Tatyanna commented after the show that:
Of course, we wanted to win. But 13th place is not a disaster. Thanks to everyone who supported us and voted for our duet. This is a good experience for us.
Who are Tatyana Mezhentseva and Denberel Oorzhak?
Tatyana and Denberel were selected to represent Russia in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest after beating ten other acts in the Russian national final in September in Moscow. They sang “Vremya dlya nas” (A Time For Us), a song about the present generation of young people and its approach to life. Tatyana and Denberel were the only non-solo artists taking part in this year’s contest.
Russia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and has participated in the contest every year since. Russia won the contest for the first time in 2006 when they were represented by the Tolmachevy Twins with the song “Vesenniy jazz”, who scored a total of 154 points. Russia has never finished outside of the top 10 in their time at the contest, and have finished second twice, fourth four times and fifth once. At the 2017 contest in Georgia, Russia won the contest for a second time represented by Polina Bogusevich and “Wings”.
