A recorded 1.5 million Spanish viewers tuned in to watch the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 yesterday afternoon in Gliwice-Silesia, Poland.
Spanish TV channel La 1 took an 11.8% market share while the contest was being broadcast. It is also reported that 5.5 million viewers in total watched at least one minute of the contest during broadcast.
The contest in Spain featured commentary from Tony Aguilar and Julia Varela as the nation made a return to the contest following a 13 year absence.
Spain were represented this year by Melani Garcia who performed “Marte” and finished in a respectable 3rd place with 212 points.
Eventually Melani was beaten this year by Kazakhstan in second place with “Armanyńnan qalma” by Yerzhan Maksim and eventual winners Poland with “Superhero” by Viki Gabor.
Spain managed to achieve 3rd place among the jury with 108 points. This included 12 points from the jury of Italy and Albania. Her total was then topped up with a second place score of 104 points from the online vote. Eventually this landed her in third place with 212 points in total.
Melani was the first artist to represent her country Spain since 2006. The nation had appeared in the first 4 instalments in the contest from 2003-2006, even winning the contest in 2004 with “Antes muerta que sencilla” by María Isabel before taking a long break from 2007-2018. Spain hold a very impressive track record in the contest with Melani retaining the success of the nation finishing top 5 in all 5 of their attempts.
It hasn’t been confirmed by La 1 whether or not Spain intend to remain in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the 2020 edition.
