Following Poland’s win at today’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019, president of Polish broadcaster TVP Jacek Kurski has announced he will be seeking the opportunity for Poland to host the contest once more.
The news was announced in today’s winner’s press conference after the competition won by Viki Gabor with her song “Superhero”.
Viki, all of Poland is proud of you, I promise Poland will try to organize the competition next year.
When asked about her victory in the competition this year, Viki said:
I’m really very happy. I will remember this moment for the rest of my life
At this stage it is not yet known if Poland will earn the automatic right of hosting the 2020 edition following their win. It is also unclear at this point how many countries would be willing to challenge Poland’s intentions in a potential bidding war. Furthermore, there has yet to be any news of which cities within Poland would be chosen in the eventuality that the country indeed hosts for a second consecutive year.
Poland was the host of this year’s contest for the first time in the city of Gliwice in the region of Silesia. This followed their first win in the competition last year with the song “Anyone I Want To Be” by Roksana Węgiel.
Today Poland became the fifth country to win the Junior Eurovision Song Contest more than once, joining Belarus, Malta and Russia on 2 wins and Georgia leading with 3 wins. However they have become the first country ever in the competition to win back to back.
Alongside this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Gliwice, Poland has other previous experience hosting Eurovision events. They have previously hosted Eurovision Young Dancers in Gdynia in 1997, Warsaw in 2005 and Gdańsk in 2013. Their capital Warsaw also played host to Eurovision Young Musicians in 1994. They are yet to host the Eurovision Song Contest since their debut in 1994.
Poland’s entry “Superhero” won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with 278 points. They finished 2nd with the jury behind Kazakhstan but had a convincing win in the online vote with 166 points to Spain’s 104 point which lead to victory overall.
