RTP has announced its broadcast plans for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Poland.
The Portuguese national broadcast will be broadcasting the final of the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest live on RTP 1. The main channel of the broadcaster has been the home of the contest since Portugal returned to the competition in 2017.
Alongside its broadcast on RTP 1, the Portuguese broadcaster will also be showing the competition live on RTP Internacional América and RTP Internacional. Delayed broadcasts will take place on November 25 on RTP Internacional Ásia and RTP Africa.
Who is Joana Almedia?
Joana was selected by RTP after winning the Gala dos Pequenos Cantores da Figueira da Foz on July 14 this year. This was the first year in which neither the Portguese entrant or song was selected via a public submission.
Joana’s song was written and composed by João Pedro Coimbra, who was invited by RTP to compose this year’s Portguese entry. João also composed “Don’t Walk Away” by Pedro Gonçalves, which finished sixth in Festival da Canção 2017, the Portguese selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Portugal debuted at the 2006 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Budapest, Romania. The country placed second-last that year and the year later, before withdrawing in 2008. They were not to return until 2017 where they were represented by Mariana Venancio, who placed 14th with her song “YouTuber”.
